Home About Us Message From Father Jean Baptiste
From the Desk of Fr. Jean Baptiste
I would like to thank all of you who have responded so favorably to our community Lenten program of the Stations of the Cross and Soup and Scripture. It has been very meaningful for me to share this experience with you, especially our discussions of Bishop Barron’s Catholicism series. This Lenten program is a wonderful opportunity for our parish family to journey toward Easter together.
Last weekend, our Lenten journey intensified with the first of the three Scrutinies. The Scrutinies are short initiation rites to prepare our catechumens for the joyous experience of baptism at the Easter Vigil. Each year, we use the readings from Cycle A for the weekends of the Scrutinies because these Gospel stories are so meaningful for those preparing for baptism and for all of us who are preparing to renew our baptismal vows during the Easter celebrations. If you would like to follow along with these readings, you can find them in The Word Among Us or on the US Bishop’s Conference website (usccb.org).
I urge all of you to continue to enter into this Lenten experience with a heart open for an experience of conversion. Time is passing so quickly. Soon, we will rejoice together at the entry of the Lord Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and enter into Holy Week. I hope that all of you will consider participating in as much of the Triduum as possible this year. These liturgical celebrations on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil present the deepest fulfillment of our Lenten journey together. I hope to see you there.
