Home About Us Message From Father John Baptiste
From the Desk of Fr. Jean Baptiste
We have entered the beautiful season of Lent. On Ash Wednesday, we heard these wonderful words of the prophet Joel:
Even now, says the LORD,
return to me with your whole heart,
with fasting and weeping and mourning;
Rend your hearts, not your garments,
and return to the LORD, your God.
For gracious and merciful is he,
slow to anger, rich in kindness,
and relenting in punishment. (Jl 2:12-13)
These words call to mind the heart of our individual Lenten journey which calls us to repentance and conversion, to prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through fasting, prayer and penance, we experience that deep emptiness and hunger which can be satisfied only by God himself. Each of us must commit ourselves to a Lenten experience which focuses on these vital activities to prepare us for the great Easter celebration.
We are, however, also a people of God journeying together through the Season of Lent. I would like to begin a new community program this Lent. Each Friday, we will gather for the Stations of the Cross at 6:00 pm followed by a Soup and Scripture program. Soup and Scripture is an opportunity for us to come together for a simple meal and spiritual discussion. This year, I plan for us to watch excerpts from Bishop Barron’s Program on Catholicism as inspiration for our discussion.
This Lenten observance will bring us closer together as a parish community and prepare us to enter into the great Paschal Mystery as a community of faith.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Rev. John Baptiste
